Dr. Alfredo Vigil has over 40 years of extensive clinical management experiences specializing in family medicine, geriatrics, emergency medicine and reproductive health issues. He has worked in private practice, community health centers, hospitals and other non-profit organizations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Vigil has been actively involved in community service, working with emergency medical programs throughout northern New Mexico and serving on the boards of numerous community organizations, including La Familia Medical Center and the Taos Community Foundation.

Governor Bill Richardson appointed Dr. Vigil in June, 2007 to serve as Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health. Dr. Vigil has served on the University of New Mexico School of Medicine clinical faculty, a position he held for many years. He has been a leader in the area of professional recruitment and retention, medical ethics and health care access for New Mexicans. He has also been a member of the New Mexico Medical Board and the EMS Licensing Commission.
